Defence Minister Rajnath Singh arrived in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday (15 May) morning, marking his first visit to the Valley following India’s Operation Sindoor, NDTV reported.

The military strike targeted terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir in retaliation for the 22 April terror attack in Pahalgam.

Singh was accompanied by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha during the visit.

As part of his visit, the Defence Minister reviewed the overall security situation and assessed the combat preparedness of the Indian Armed Forces.

He also inspected shell fragments from Pakistani attacks in border regions and visited the Army’s 15 Corps Headquarters, where he interacted with army personnel.

Singh said, "I would like to bow to the supreme sacrifice of the brave jawans while they fought terrorism and terrorists. I pay respect to their memory. I also pay respect to the innocent civilians who were killed in Pahalgam. I also salute the valour of the injured soldiers and pray to God that they may recover at the earliest."

Describing Operation Sindoor as a "big commitment," the Defence Minister stated, "This is the biggest Operation against terror. We will go to any extent to end terrorism. Pakistan has to stop sheltering terrorists."

Slamming Pakistan, Singh said that Pakistan had reduced itself to such a state through constant begging and ignorance that wherever it stood, the line of beggars seemed to begin.

He added that it had once again approached the IMF for a loan, while India had become a country that lends to the IMF so it can help poorer nations.

""As for Pakistan, what can I even say to you about it? That country, through relentless begging and its own ignorance, has reached such a state that one could even say—wherever Pakistan stands, that is where the queue of beggars begins. You must have heard how, once again, it has gone to the IMF seeking a loan. On the other hand, our country today belongs to the category of nations that lend to the IMF, so that the IMF can, in turn, lend to poorer countries," he said.

He also questioned whether nuclear weapons could truly be considered safe in the hands of a rogue and irresponsible state like Pakistan. He further stated that in his view, Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal must be placed under the oversight of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

"Today, the world can gauge how firm India’s resolve is against terrorism by the fact that we have not even cared about their nuclear blackmail. The entire world has witnessed how irresponsibly Pakistan has repeatedly issued nuclear threats to India," Singh said.

"From the soil of Srinagar today, I wish to raise a question before the global community: Are nuclear weapons safe in the hands of such an irresponsible and rogue nation? I believe Pakistan's nuclear arsenal should be brought under the supervision of the IAEA " he added.
