The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) on Thursday (18 September) announced that the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group will invest Rs 3,000 crore to set up a 3 Gigawatt (GW) solar cell and integrated solar ecosystem hub in Sector 8B, near Noida International Airport, along the Yamuna Expressway, the Hindustan Times reported.

“A state-of-the-art facility that will produce advanced solar cells using cutting-edge technologies like TOPCon and perovskite-tandem cells, will be set up under this project. A 60 MW captive solar and energy storage plant will be established. A dedicated solar power plant with energy storage capabilities to ensure efficient and reliable energy supply will be set up,” YEIDA’s chief executive officer (CEO), RK Singh was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.

The company's project will reportedly focus on advanced solar technologies designed to achieve efficiencies of over 28-30 per cent, helping cut power costs by 10-15 per cent.

Officials said it would create a comprehensive solar manufacturing ecosystem, including ancillary units for frames, encapsulants, and process consumables, thereby cutting reliance on imported modules.

YEIDA has issued a Letter of Intent (LoI) for 100 acres in Sector 8D to facilitate the project.

According to officials cited in the HT report, this ambitious project will not only boost India’s solar manufacturing capabilities but also position Uttar Pradesh as a leader in the renewable energy sector.

The solar hub is expected to generate more than 1,200 direct jobs and about 4,000 indirect employment opportunities, helping to develop advanced skills in renewable energy and semiconductor technologies, officers added.
