Metro Corridor Along Dwarka Expressway In Gurugram Gains Momentum As Union Minister Bats For Feasibility Study

The Union Minister of State for Planning and Gurugram MP, Rao Inderjit Singh, has asked officials to examine the possibility of a metro line along Dwarka Expressway, linking Kherki Daula with Delhi’s Airport Metro Line, which at present terminates at at Yasho Bhoomi station, the Hindustan Times reported.

At a review meeting on Thursday, Singh directed teams from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) to prepare a feasibility assessment.

A spokesperson for the minister said officials from the Ministry of Urban Development and the DMRC informed the meeting that a ridership study for the proposed Dwarka Expressway route would be conducted soon.

Singh emphasised that a metro link along the expressway was a “natural progression” of the Airport Metro Line and should converge at Kherki Daula with the proposed RRTS corridor and the Pachgaon metro project.

“It is crucial that the metro projects should not be delayed as has happened for the Old Gurugram Metro line,” he said, urging departments to remove bottlenecks affecting road and metro work.

Officials informed the minister that work had begun on the detailed project report for a separate metro route connecting the Airport Line to Iffco Chowk.

Singh also instructed agencies to clear obstacles on the Hero Honda Chowk–Umang Bhardwaj Chowk stretch, where NHAI is widening the road and the proposed metro will pass.

During the meeting, Singh sought an update on the Sarai Kale Khan–SNB RRTS line and suggested its extension to Bawal in Rewari.

He also raised concerns over delays in the Old Gurugram Metro, noting that its cost has doubled since it was planned in 2016.
