Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday (13 March) promised five things to women under 'Nari Nyay Guarantee' ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Under the Mahalakshmi Guarantee, one woman in every poor household will get Rs 1 lakh annually. Under the 'Aadhi Aabadi Pura Haq' scheme, new appointments of the Central government will have 50 per cent reservation for women.
Third is the 'Shakti ka Samman' scheme, under which the Central government will double its contribution in the monthly payout to Aanganwadi, ASHA and midday meal workers.
Fourth is the 'Adhikar Maitri' scheme, under which a para-legal aid will be appointed at the Panchayat level to help women and make them aware of their rights.
Fifth is the 'Savitri Bai Phule Hostel' scheme, under which at least one hostel for working women will be constructed in each district headquarters and subsequently, the number of these hostels will be doubled.
Earlier, Congress announced schemes of 'Bhagidari Nyay', 'Kisan Nyay' and 'Yuva Nyay'. Kharge said that it has been Congress' record since 1926 of making manifestos and fulfilling promises.
Seeking blessings from the people of India, Kharge concluded his announcement with 'Jai Hind, Jai Congress, Jai Bhim'. Bhim is used for BR Ambedkar and the salutation is widely prevalent among Dalit parties.

The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
