Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday (24 June) met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan, requesting her assent to seven key bills passed by the state legislature. The proposed laws span critical areas including education, mining taxation, procurement transparency, and administrative reforms.

Siddaramaiah shared on X, he said: “At the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi today, I met the Honorable President, Smt. Draupadi Murmu, and held discussions regarding the bills pending approval. On this occasion, I honored her by presenting the Mysore Peta, a symbol of the state’s pride, and a sandalwood memento.”

As per a report by The Economic Times, among the significant legislations is The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Karnataka Amendment) Bill, 2025, which proposes changes to the current RTE framework in the state.

The Karnataka (Mineral Rights and Mineral Bearing Land) Tax Bill, 2024 aims to boost state revenues by introducing new taxation mechanisms on mineral-rich lands.

The Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurement (Amendment) Act, 2025 seeks to introduce enhanced accountability and oversight in government purchasing processes.

The set of bills also includes The Registration (Karnataka Amendment) Bills of 2024 and 2025, as well as The Notaries (Karnataka Amendment) Bill, 2025, all of which are intended to streamline administrative protocols.

Additionally, the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowment (Amendment) Bill, 2024 is part of the legislative package sent for presidential review.

These bills require the President’s assent under constitutional provisions that mandate central approval for laws involving concurrent or central subjects.
