Soldier Killed In Gunfight With Terrorists In J&K’s Udhampur

A soldier critically injured in a gunfight with terrorists succumbed to his injuries as the Army and police resumed a joint search in a remote forest in Udhampur district early Saturday (20 September), officials said.

The New Indian Express reported, citing sources, that the soldier was injured late Friday evening when militants opened fire on a joint Army-Jammu and Kashmir Police Special Operations Group (SOG) squad in Seoj Dhar forest, which covers the Dudu-Basantgarh area of Udhampur and Bhaderwah in Doda.

Authorities maintained a strict cordon around the encounter site overnight, and the joint search resumed Saturday morning. Officials said two to three terrorists are believed to be hiding in the forested area.

Reinforcements, including drones and sniffer dogs, were deployed from both Udhampur and Doda, and authorities continued a large-scale search operation as of the latest reports. Officials noted that there has been no new contact with the terrorists so far.
