Accusing institutions like CBI and ED of working at the behest of BJP-led Central government, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday (29 March) warned that action will be taken against those who undermined democracy when the government changes.

Rahul's warning comes after Congress received an income tax notice.

"When the government changes, those who undermine democracy will face action," the Congress party posted Rahul Gandhi's warning on X.

"If these institutions had done their job properly, If CBI, ED had done their jobs.. there would have been no problem," Gandhi said.

"Someday, BJP's government will change. Then, there will be action. And the action will be so stern that this will never happen again. This is my guarantee," he added.

This comes after Congress on Friday said it had received a fresh notice from the income-tax department, demanding a payment of Rs 1,823.08 crore.

Congress claimed the BJP also violated the income tax laws and it should get a demand notice of Rs 4,600 crore.

Further, Congress has also announced that it will hold a nationwide protest over the weekend against fresh income tax demand of over Rs 1,800 crore, which it has described as an "egregious attack" on democracy and imposition of "tax terrorism" amid the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The party has asked all state units to hold "massive public demonstrations at the state and district headquarters" in their respective states on Saturday and Sunday.
