  • While DMK Organisational Secretary RS Bharathi compared Governor RN Ravi to a panipuri seller, Sivaji Krishnamurthy said a terrorist would be sent to kill the Governor.
  • Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leaders have resorted to using abusive and derogatory language against Governor RN Ravi after he walked out of the state Assembly few days ago.

The DMK and its allies has been on the offensive against the Governor after his statement suggesting that the state be called ‘Tamizhagam’, instead of Tamil Nadu. They held street protests, posted #GetOutRavi on social media and also submitted a memorandum to the President.

However, amidst these, remarks made two of the party’s leaders, RS Bharathi, the Organizational Secretary and Sivaji Krishnamurthy have hit a new low.

The remarks made by them can be seen here and here.

Krishnamurthy said, “CM is asking us not scold the Governor. Had he read the speech properly, I would have placed flowers on his feet and thanked him with folded hands. But don’t I have the rights to slap him with slipper if he denies to say Ambedkar’s name? If you deny saying his name, you go to Kashmir. We’ll send a terrorist to shoot and kill you.”

A police complaint has been filed against Krishnamurthy by Prasanna Ramasamy, the Deputy Secretary to the Governor.

Condemning the remarks made by Krishnamurthy, Bharatiya Janata Party state president, K Annamalai, in a letter written to the Director General of Police (DGP), said that the party expects strong action in the case, otherwise it would be interpreted as endorsement of such views by the police.

Bharathi after comparing the Governor to migrant workers from Bihar who sell panipuri in the state, said, “Your governor's job is like cleaning banana leaves after a feast. The speech was like the meal which has sweets and various forms of tasty food. You think the person who is sitting with you to eat will stay silent if you remove the food and bring something that you want them to eat?”

According to Bharathi, the Governor had no right to change the speech provided by the government.

Going to the extent of talking of physically beating the Governor, he said, “I am not boasting, but had Jayalalitha been alive, he would not have escaped without being beaten.”

After referring to Jayalalitha, in a reference to P Sekar Babu, the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HRCE) Minister, who is considered to be party strongman, he said, “We have several Sekar Babu who are under control due to Thalapathy MK Stalin. Even an eye movement would have been enough. He wouldn’t have gone home. Does one need to get a degree from Yale to throw something at a person?”

He also said that had Stalin wished, he could have requested the Speaker, to order the removal of the Governor from the Assembly using marshals.

Narayanan Thirupathy, a vice-president of the Tamil Nadu BJP said that the two leaders should be arrested under the Goondas Act and kept in jail for a year.
