Tamil Nadu Politics: AIADMK Secretary Anwar Razza Joins Ruling DMK, Criticising Alliance With BJP

AIADMK's organisational secretary and former Member of Parliament, Anwar Razza, joined the ruling DMK on Monday (21 July), marking a momentous political move, reported The New Indian Express.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M K Stalin welcomed him to the party in Chennai, dealing another blow to the AIADMK's alliance with the BJP.

Soon after Razza defection, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) dismissed him from the party. Razza has been a significant member in the AIADMK for decades, holding key positions during the leadership of M G Ramachandran and J Jayalalitha. However, he expressed dissatisfaction with the party's current trajectory, particularly its alliance with the BJP.

Criticism of BJP’s Influence
Razza spoke to the media after officially joining the DMK in the presence of party general secretary Duraimurugan and expressed his concerns:

“During the earlier coalition, BJP listened to what AIADMK said. But now, the situation is different. Although BJP said Palaniswami is the head of the NDA alliance in Tamil Nadu, the party has not yet declared him as the CM candidate.”

He further added, “BJP will destroy AIADMK as it has done to several of its allies in other states. BJP's goal is not to win this election but to replace AIADMK.”

Razza claimed that the AIADMK-BJP partnership is unpopular with voters and predicted defeat in the future elections: The people don't like the AIADMK-BJP coalition and will defeat them in the upcoming elections.

DMK leaders including Minister R S Raja Kannappan and Ramanathapuram district secretary Katherbatcha Muthuramalingam were present during the event.
