Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced that the Tamil Nadu segment of the Chennai-Bengaluru Expressway (BCE) is expected to be completed by August 2025.
Speaking during the winter session of the Lok Sabha, Gadkari detailed the progress of the 261.70 km-long expressway project, which includes a 105.70 km stretch in Tamil Nadu at an estimated cost of Rs 7,525 crore.
The expressway, which begins at Sriperumbudur in Tamil Nadu and ends at Gudipala in Andhra Pradesh, is being constructed in four packages.
The project includes a trumpet interchange at Irungattukottai, connecting the Chennai-Bengaluru Highway (NH-48).
According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), significant progress has been made like the 24 km Gudipala to Walajahpet stretch is 72 per cent complete, the 24.5 km Walajahpet to Arakkonam stretch is 86 per cent complete, the 25.5 km Arakkonam to Kancheepuram stretch is 52 per cent complete and the 32.1 km Kancheepuram to Sriperumbudur stretch is 65 per cent complete.
The works in the Gudipala (AP) to Walajahpet, Walajahpet to Arakkonam and Arakkonam to Kancheepuram stretches are likely to be completed by March 2025, Daily Thanthi reported.
The trumpet interchange at Irungattukottai, which commenced construction in February 2023, has achieved 15 per cent progress so far and is expected to be completed by August 2025.
