Trichy District Collector M Pradeep Kumar has assured that the long-pending Trichy-Karur greenfield national highway project will be expedited to provide a viable alternative to the existing narrow National Highway corridor near the Kaveri river, Times of India reported.

Speaking at the District Road Safety Council and DISHA meeting held at the Trichy District Collectorate on Tuesday (10 June), the collector confirmed that the project would gain renewed momentum.

“Greenfield highway is an alternative to the existing narrow Trichy-Karur NH. Channels can be covered, and carriageways can be laid, we will speed up the proposal," the collector was quoted as saying by ToI in response to a question from Karur MP S Jothimani.

The proposed 70.1 km highway is planned to pass through SH71 (Thogamalai-Kulithalai) and SH74 (Eriodu-Karur).

The collector also added that the pending portion of the Trichy semi-ring road, covering 21 km between Panjapur (Trichy-Madurai NH) and Jeeyapuram (Trichy-Karur NH), has been prioritised, with the NHAI expected to complete the Detailed Project Report (DPR) by year-end.

A 3 km long flyover on the Trichy-Madurai NH at Panjapur will also be accelerated, along with vehicular underpasses at G Corner and Sanjeevi Nagar junction, aimed at enhancing road safety and reducing accident risks.
