Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Tamilisai Soundararajan’s remarks following state party chief K Annamalai's "harsh" comments against All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and its general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami, have been drawing attention.

This comes a day after Annamalai strongly criticised Palaniswami by saying that AIADMK had become a ‘tender party’ and that he did not need advice from its leader, who had prostrated before somebody's feet to grab power.

While Soundararajan, a former state president, who rejoined politics just before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, when asked to comment on the issue, said that leaders have their own tone, she added that harsh language should not be used, and leaders of other parties should get the respect they deserve.

Her remarks received criticism from a number of BJP supporters. They were unhappy with what they perceived as another instance of bringing out her differences with Annamalai in the open.

A few months ago, she was reportedly warned by Union Home Minister Amit Shah after she supported AIADMK leader S P Velumani’s comments stating that an alliance between the two parties could have won over 30 seats.

Palaniswami had said that Annamalai's speeches were childish and that he would speak anything if he got the microphone. It was in response to this that Annamalai made the strong remarks.
