Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (6 January), expressed satisfaction with Microsoft’s ambitious expansion and investment plans in India following his meeting with the company’s chairman and CEO, Satya Nadella.

In a post on X, PM Modi said, “It was indeed a delight to meet you, Satya Nadella! Glad to know about Microsoft's ambitious expansion and investment plans in India. It was also wonderful discussing various aspects of tech, innovation and AI in our meeting.”

Nadella, who is on a three-day visit to India, expressed gratitude for Modi’s leadership. He said, “Excited to build on our commitment to making India AI-first and work together on our continued expansion in the country to ensure every Indian benefits from this AI platform shift.”

During his visit, Nadella is scheduled to address Microsoft’s clients and stakeholders on artificial intelligence (AI) in Bengaluru and Delhi. This marks Nadella’s second visit to India in less than a year.

During his previous visit in February 2024, Nadella emphasised the critical role of India’s developer community in creating innovative solutions that address domestic challenges and have global applicability.

At that time, he announced Microsoft’s new skilling investment initiative, Advanta(I)ge India, aimed at empowering 2 million Indians with AI-related skills by 2025. The initiative aligns with Microsoft’s vision of preparing India for the AI era.

Additionally, Nadella launched the expansion of the Code; Without Barriers programme in India, targeting the skilling and certification of 75,000 women developers in 2024, further promoting diversity and inclusion in the tech sector.

Nadella’s visit highlights India’s growing importance as a hub for technology and AI development, with Microsoft playing a key role in fostering innovation and skill-building to benefit both the nation and the global tech ecosystem.
