Members of the Hindu Sikh Global Forum gathered to protest recent attacks on Hindu temples in Canada outside the Canadian High Commission in New Delhi on Sunday (10 November) but were stopped by police at Teen Murti Marg.
Delhi Police heightened security in the area, blocking demonstrators who voiced opposition to increasing violence against Hindus in Canada by Khalistani extremists, the latest on 3 November outside the Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton, as reported by ANI.
The Hindu Sikh Global Forum, which represents a coalition of Hindu and Sikh communities, organised the protest to demand action against such attacks. Tarvinder Singh Marwah, President of the Forum, stated that there appears to be a recurring pattern of incidents aimed at Hindu and Sikh communities.
"An entire generation was destroyed during militancy—they were either killed or forced to migrate. Drugs were then introduced to ruin the lives of our young generation," Marwah told ANI, adding that efforts to disrupt community unity have included attempts at forced religious conversions.
"And now this new trend of attacking temples has started. This is wrong and unfortunate. We are here to show unity. A true Sikh can never be a Khalistani. If they want a separate nation, they should keep it to themselves," he said.
Marwah added, "We want our tricolor and our country respected. India's Sikhs stand with India and do not support Khalistan," as recently Indian tricolor was stomped upon during pro-Khalistan protests in Canada.
The protests come amid growing diplomatic tensions between Canada and India following allegations by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's administration regarding India’s alleged involvement in the killing of designated Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
