US President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday announced that his campaign manager, Susie Wiles, will be his White House chief of staff.
Marking a historic milestone, Wiles will be the first woman to hold this role.
“Susie Wiles just helped me achieve one of the greatest political victories in American history, and was an integral part of both my 2016 and 2020 successful campaigns," Trump said two days after his decisive US election win over Democrat Kamala Harris.
The 78-year-old Republican emphasised the significance of her appointment, calling her "tough, smart, innovative, and universally admired and respected."
"It is a well-deserved honor to have Susie as the first-ever female Chief of Staff in United States history," he added.
US Vice President-elect J D Vance called it a "great news" and said Susie was a "huge asset" to Trump on the campaign.
"She will be a huge asset in the White House. She's also just a really good person," he said.
A seasoned political strategist, Wiles has a distinguished background that includes key roles on Ronald Reagan’s 1980 campaign and as a senior adviser for Trump’s 2016 and 2020 bids.
The chief of staff is a political appointee of the President of the United States who does not require Senate confirmation.
The position is widely recognized as one of great power and influence, owing to daily contact with the the President and control of the Executive Office of the President of the United States.
