A mild earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale struck Siwan, Bihar, on Monday (17 February) morning, sending tremors through the region. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the quake occurred at 8:02 am at a depth of 10 km, reported ANI.

The NCS confirmed the seismic event through a post on X, stating: "EQ of M: 4.0, On: 17/02/2025 08:02:08 IST, Lat: 25.93 N, Long: 84.42 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Siwan, Bihar."

This came just hours after another 4.0 magnitude earthquake rattled Delhi-NCR earlier in the morning. The tremors, which struck at 5:36 am at a depth of 5 km, caused panic among residents, with many rushing outdoors in alarm.

Following the quake, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to remain calm and adhere to safety protocols. In a post on X, he reassured the public that authorities were actively monitoring the situation.

"Tremors were felt in Delhi and nearby areas. Urging everyone to stay calm and follow safety precautions, staying alert for possible aftershocks. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation," he stated.

While no casualties or significant damage have been reported, experts have warned of possible aftershocks in both regions. The NCS has advised residents in affected areas to stay vigilant and follow standard earthquake safety measures.

Authorities continue to assess the impact and are keeping emergency response teams on standby in case of further developments.
