After Sambhal, another temple was found in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi on Tuesday (17 December). However, Municipal Commissioner of Varanasi, Akshat Verma denied commenting on the matter.

The temple, in a locked state, was found in a residential area of Varanasi. Police have been deployed around the temple and further action will be taken by them.

As per Dainik Bhaskar, a Hindu organisation named Sanatan Rakshak Dal has claimed that the temple is 250 years old and has been closed for 40 years. Before that, the temple used to have daily prayers, they say.

The temple is located in the Madanpura area. After discovery, Bengali women reached the temple and blew conch shells. Muslim community members also came out on the streets but were pacified by the police.

Hours after this development, a second temple was discovered in Sambhal. While the first one was discovered on 14 December in Khaggusarai area, the second is found in the Hayat Nagar area.

Both these temples are located in Muslim-majority areas and are situated at a distance of 2 kilometres from each other. The temples were closed since 1978 riots as Hindu families migrated out.

Yesterday, three desecrated sculptures of Hindu gods were found in the well of the earlier discovered Shiv-Hanuman temple. These statues are believed to be of Lord Ganesh, Lord Kartikeya and Goddess Parvati.
