Uttar Pradesh: PM Modi To Inaugurate 9 Km Section Of Kanpur Metro Rail Project Tomorrow

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kanpur on Tuesday (28 December) and inaugurate the completed section of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project.

    This nine km long completed section is from IIT Kanpur to Moti Jheel. The Prime Minister will inspect the Kanpur Metro Rail Project and undertake a metro ride from the IIT metro station to Geeta Nagar. The entire length of the Metro Rail Project in Kanpur is 32 km and is under development with over Rs 11,000 crore.

    “Improving urban mobility has been one of the key focus areas of the Prime Minister. The inauguration of the completed section of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project is yet another step in this direction,” the Prime Minister's Office said.

    During the visit, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate the Bina-Panki Multi-Product Pipeline Project. The 356 km long project has a capacity of around 3.45 million metric tonnes per annum. Extending from the Bina refinery in Madhya Pradesh to Panki in Kanpur, this project was built with over Rs 1,500 crore. It will help the region access petroleum products from the Bina refinery.

    In a remarkable achievement, the Uttar Pradesh government brought the Kanpur metro project to the inauguration phase from the commencement of project works within two years.

    Despite two rounds of Covid-19 induced restrictions in March-September of 2020 and April-June of 2021, this work has been completed in less than two years.

    In November this year, CM Yogi Adityanath flagged off the trial run of the Kanpur Metro and said the people of the city would soon have access to the best transport facility.

    Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had laid the foundation work of the nine-kilometre long ‘Priority Corridor’ on 15 November 2019. The swift implementation of the project so far has earned the contractors and civil engineers immense applause from the authorities.
