Uttarakhand : Search Resumes For Two Missing Pilgrims After Yamunotri Landslide

Search efforts resumed on Wednesday morning (June 25, 2025) for two missing pilgrims - Bhavika Sharma (11) from Delhi and Kamlesh Jethwa from Mumbai - following a landslide on the Yamunotri trek route in Uttarakhand.

As per a report by The Hindu, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) deployed sniffer dogs to aid in locating the missing individuals, who were part of a group struck by falling boulders on Monday (June 23) near Kainchi Bhairav Mandir, a point located 9 km from the Yamunotri shrine.

The landslide occurred on Monday afternoon at a place known as 9, Kainchi Bhairav Mandir located on the trek route to the Himalayan temple.

The force of the landslide broke roadside railings, sending the pilgrims tumbling into a deep gorge, officials from the State Disaster Management Authority said.

Earlier, Rasik, a pilgrim from Mumbai, was rescued with injuries, while two bodies of Harishankar (47) from Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, and his 8-year-old daughter Khyati were recovered from the rubble on Monday night.

Rescue teams continue to search the area under difficult conditions, as authorities work to trace the missing amid unstable terrain and debris.
