Mumbai is all set to get a Vande Bharat Sleeper train, with a trial run ongoing along the Ahmedabad-Vadodara-Mumbai Central corridor today.

The prototype of the train departed from Ahmedabad at 7.15 am on Wednesday (15 January) and will reach Mumbai Central at 12.40 pm, completing the 540-km journey in 5 hours and 25 minutes with brief halts of 2 to 5 minutes.

Upon arrival at Mumbai Central station, engineers will inspect and clean the 16-car train before its departure at 1.45 pm, Hindustan Times reported citing sources.

The return journey to Ahmedabad is expected to conclude at 6.54 pm.

“We are carrying out a Confirmatory Oscillograph Car Run (COCR) trial of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train at a speed of 130 kmph between Ahmedabad and Mumbai Central,” a senior Western Railway official was quoted as saying in the HT report.

The COCR test is carried out to certify the train’s speed.

The Vande Bharat Sleeper train features 16 coaches classified into AC 1st Class, AC 2-Tier, and AC 3-Tier, offering a combined seating capacity for 1,128 passengers.

Earlier this month, the Vande Bharat Sleeper successfully reached a speed of 180 kmph multiple times during trials in Rajasthan.

The Vande Bharat Sleeper train is reportedly equipped with advanced safety features, including crash buffers, deformation tubes, and a fire barrier wall. The train also offers modern amenities such as automatic doors, cushioned berths, and onboard WiFi.
