In Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district, two village defence guards were abducted and killed by terrorists on Thursday (7 November).
This comes days after a grenade attack at a Sunday market in Srinagar that left at least 12 people injured.
According to officials, Nazir Ahmad and Kuldeep Kumar were abducted from the Munzla Dhar forest area in Adhwari on Thursday before being fatally shot.
"A massive search operation has been launched to hunt down the terrorists," said an official.
"We have received information that my brother and Ahmad were abducted and killed by terrorists. They were village defence guards (VDGs) and had gone to graze cattle, as usual," Kumar's brother, Prithvi was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
The Kashmir Tigers, an offshoot of Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad, have taken responsibility for the killings, sharing images of the bodies with their eyes blindfolded.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha condemned the terrorist attack and expressed condolences to the families of the VDG members.
"No words are strong enough to condemn the heinous terrorist attack on VDG members in Kishtwar. I convey my heartfelt condolences to the families of brave sons martyred in this cowardly attack. We are firmly resolved to destroy all terror outfits & avenge this barbaric act," Sinha wrote on X.
