The latest victim of wolf attacks in Uttar Pradesh's (UP) Bahraich is a five-year-old girl, who was attacked on Monday (2 September) night but survived as her family came to her rescue.

It is pertinent to mention that the wolf attacks have already killed eight people including seven children and a woman in the past 48 days, while at least 38 people have been injured.

The girl was attacked while she was sleeping alongside her father. Hearing her screams, the father woke up and saved her while the wolf ran away. The girl is receiving treatment at a Community Health Centre.

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a high-level meeting to discuss the wolf menace and directed the forest officials to shoot the wolves if they fail to capture them.

Four wolves have been captured so far but the wolf attacks continue to scare the people. District Magistrate Rani explained the challenge of the wolves attacking a new village every four to five days.

"People are being made aware of the situation and told to sleep inside their homes with the doors closed or on rooftops," Rani told PTI. Drones are also being used to monitor the wolves' movements at night.

A team from the Wildlife Institute, Dehradun will soon reach Bahraich. Managing Director of Forest Corporation IFS Sanjay Kumar, Chief Forest Officer IFS H V Girish and two District Forest Officers are monitoring the situation.
