Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on 5 August announced that 21 districts of Uttar Pradesh had been affected by floods due to continuous heavy rainfall over the past two weeks, reported The Print.

He visited the Auraiya Collectorate, distributed relief material, and handed over cheques to beneficiaries of state schemes.

To manage the crisis, the government deployed 16 NDRF teams, 18 SDRF teams, 31 PAC Flood Units, and over 1,250 boats.

The rising Yamuna River, fed by the Chambal’s overflow in Rajasthan’s Dholpur, has inundated several areas, impacting over 5,000 families in 12 villages of Auraiya.

“Control rooms have been set up at the state and district levels, and flood posts established in every village,” Adityanath said.

The administration has arranged food, drinking water, animal fodder, and dry relief kits.

He assured, “Families who have lost a member to the disaster will get Rs 4 lakh as compensation.”

Damaged homes will be covered under the Chief Minister Housing Scheme, and the government is compensating for livestock losses. He also ordered a crop damage survey.

As the threat may continue till September, Adityanath urged citizens to stay alert.

Earlier, he conducted an aerial survey from Agra to Auraiya and planted a sapling under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign.

By evening, the number of affected districts rose to 24, covering 59 tehsils and 1,245 villages. Relief Commissioner Bhanu Chandra Goswami reported that over 2.06 lakh people received aid and 26,089 animals were relocated.

The government has distributed 17,924 food grain and 2.47 lakh lunch packets, set up 40 community kitchens, and deployed 901 medical teams across 377 shelters housing 41,842 people.
