Uttar Pradesh is set to launch QR code-based verification of property ownership, integrate land registry with revenue department records, and modernise registration offices, Minister Ravindra Jaiswal said on Sunday (24 August), reported Hindustan Times.

The government will allow homebuyers to scan a QR code to view ownership details, past transactions, and verify if sellers hold legal rights.

“Soon, anyone planning to buy property can scan a QR code to know its ownership details, past transactions, and whether the seller is legally entitled to sell the entire area being offered. This will protect buyers from fraud,” Jaiswal told news agency PTI.

He said that revenue officials will be posted at registration offices to verify records instantly, ensuring that “the homebuyer’s name will be updated immediately after registration, giving them instant ownership rights.”

The state also plans to simplify tenancy agreements by reducing stamp duty.

“We are planning to introduce a fixed charge of Rs 500 to Rs 1,000 for registering tenancy agreements so that both landlords and tenants can secure their rights,” Jaiswal said.

Family property settlements for up to four generations will also be allowed at a fixed fee of Rs 5,000.

The minister highlighted that annual registrations rose from 16 lakh in 2017-18 to nearly 50 lakh now.

To manage this, registration offices will be upgraded like Passport Seva Kendras with AC halls, help desks, and token systems.
