Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has countered US President Donald Trump’s claim that India is one of the “primary funders” of the war in Ukraine, saying New Delhi is “mostly” with Ukraine, the Hindustan Times reported.
His remarks came during an interview with Fox News, where he addressed questions on India’s energy ties with Russia.
“I think India, mostly, with us. Yes, we have this questions with energy but I think President Trump can manage it,” Zelensky said.
He acknowledged India’s continued oil trade with Russia but expressed hope that New Delhi would shift its approach.
Zelensky added, “With the Europeans make closer and stronger relations with India. I think we have to do everything not to withdraw India and they will change their attitude to Russian energy sector, I am sure.”
However, he contrasted India’s position with that of China, saying, “With China it’s more difficult because today, it's not in their interests not to support Russia.”

The Ukrainian leader’s comments followed Trump’s strong remarks at the UN General Assembly, where the US President accused India and China of funding Moscow’s war effort.
“China and India are the primary funders of the ongoing war by continuing to purchase Russian oil,” Trump said.
Trump’s statement came weeks after his administration imposed steep tariffs on Indian imports, effective 27 August.
The 50 per cent duties, half reciprocal, half linked to India’s oil trade with Russia, have faced pushback from within the US administration.
In his Fox News interview, Zelensky also suggested Trump could persuade Chinese President Xi Jinping to alter his stance on the war.
“I think that President Trump can change the attitude of Xi Jinping to this war, because China, we don't feel that China wants to finish this war,” he said.
