Domestic Air Traffic Registers Over 21 Per Cent Growth In March; Annual Growth Over 51 Per Cent

The Indian civil aviation industry has witnessed a robust  growth in passengers segment in March 2023, with a 51 per cent increase, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Domestic airlines carried 375.04 lakh passengers between January-March 2023, as against 247.23 lakh in the same period last year, thereby registering an annual growth of 51.70 per cent and monthly growth of 21.41 per cent, with 128.93 lakh passengers carried in March 2023 as compared to 106.19 lakh in March 2022.

The overall cancellation rate of scheduled domestic airlines for March was 0.28 per cent.

IndiGo remained the market leader with a 56.8 per cent share, followed by Air India at 8.8 per cent, Vistara at 8.7 per cent, and Go First at 6.9 per cent.

The passenger load factor (PLF) for various airlines in March shows SpiceJet recording the highest PLF at 92.3 per cent, followed by Vistara at 91.6 per cent and Go First at 90.2 per cent, according to the DGCA.

Private airline IndiGo commanded the largest market share with a total number of passengers carried out, standing at 73.17 lakh in March 2023. It was followed by Vistara at 11.49 lakh passengers and Air India at 11.39 lakh passengers.

The overall cancellation rate of scheduled domestic airlines for the month of March 2023 has been 0.28 per cent. Prominent reasons mentioned for cancellations were technical (53.6 per cent), weather (22.2 per cent), and operational (11.5 per cent).

During March 2023, a total of 347 passenger-related complaints had been received by the scheduled domestic airlines
