The India-Pakistan World Cup match scheduled for 15 October in Ahmedabad is likely to be rescheduled as it falls on the first date of Navratri, reported the Indian Express.

According to the report, security agencies have asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to change the date because of increased deployment of security forces across the state in view of the celebrations.

A change of date is likely to lead to a flurry of cancellations and frantic rebooking by fans.

The Narendra Modi Stadium, which has a capacity of nearly 1 lakh has been allotted important games like the opening game between New Zealand and England, as well as matches between India and Pakistan, England and Australia, and the final.

Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, Dharamsala, Hyderabad, Lucknow and Pune are the other venues.

The matter is likely to be discussed on 27 July during a meeting of cricket associations hosting World Cup matches.
