Temple activist TR Ramesh today (5 July) issued a notice to the Principal Secretary and Commissioner of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HRCE) department.
The notice asks them to stop promotions, increments and retirement of officers who have audit objections against them for decisions taken and offences committed by them in respect to temples when they were posted as Executive Officers, 'Fit Persons' of temples or by directing junior officials.
The nature of offences mentioned in the notice are violations of the Tamil Nadu HR&CE Act, 1959, the Religious Institutions (Prevention of Misuse) Act, 1988 and those under Sections 120-B, 405, 406, 408 and 409 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
He added that providing them with such benefits would be inappropriate and unethical.
In his tweet, Ramesh mentioned that there are 1.5 million audit objections in temple audit reports which are yet to be resolved as required by the law.
The notice has been issued in his capacity as president of the Temple Worshippers Society and Indic Collective Trust.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
