The Tamil Nadu Cabinet is scheduled to meet today (2 May) amidst rumours of a reshuffle.
According to political commentators, Chief Minister MK Stalin is unhappy with the performance of certain ministers and would like to drop some ministers, change the portfolios of others and bring in new faces.
The speculation increased after the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) found itself in a spot of bother over a number of issues like the DMK Files, the G-Square raids and the audio tapes alleged to be that of Finance Minister Palanivel Thiagarajan.
It also backtracked on two issues, i.e., the G.O. allowing for special licenses to serve liquor in places like marriage halls and the Bill which amended the Factories Act to allow 12 hours-work after opposition from a number of political parties, including its allies.
The government completes two years of its tenure this month.
During the previous reshuffle in December 2022, Udhayanidhi Stalin was inducted as the Sports Minister.
