Justice SS Sundar of the Madras High Court today (6 July) held the election of P Ravindhranath Kumar as the Lok Sabha MP from Theni to be null and void.

Ravindhranath is the son of former chief minister O Panneerselvam (OPS) and was the lone MP to be elected from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) to be elected from the state during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

He had defeated EVKS Elangovan of the Congress.

P Milany, a voter of the constituency had alleged that he had not declared all his sources of income in his election affidavit and also bribed voters.

Milany said that while he had declared his income sources to be business and agriculture, he had not declared that he was drawing a salary from a private company in which he was a director.

To substantiate his allegation of voters being bribed, he submitted a compact disc (CD) that contained a video clip. He said that the clip was circulated on WhatsApp during the time of elections.

Justice Sundar has granted Ravindhranath one month's time to appeal against the order in the Supreme Court and till then the order would not come into effect.
