The Tamil Nadu police has arrested Praveen and Ekambaram, two Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Youth Wing members who were accused of molesting a woman police constable.
The arrest comes after a DMK MLA Prabhakar Raja had defended the two men, saying that their 'hands may have touched the woman constable by mistake.' It was also reported that the victim had withdrawn the complaint after an apology by the duo.
However, the two were later suspended from the party for tarnishing its image.
The woman police constable was on security duty for a DMK party event addressed by Kanimozhi, the deputy general secretary of the party, when the incident occurred.
The accused had tried to flee the spot but an inspector had nabbed them.
However, when the police was trying to take them to the police station, DMK workers surrounded them and created a ruckus, forcing the police to let them go.
The incident caused massive outrage on social media.
Condemning the incident, Bharatiya Janata Party state president K Annamalai had said that it showed the sorry state of governance in Tamil Nadu. He had urged Chief Minister MK Stalin to take strong action and immediately arrest his party men.

The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
