Senthil Balaji has been accused of masterminding a cash-for-jobs scam during his tenure as Transport Minister

Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials are conducting raids at the premises of minister Senthil Balaji's associates in Karur and Coimbatore.

Amongst those whose premises are being searched are Mutthupalan, a TASMAC supervisor and Shankar, who is reportedly a collection agent of Balaji.

Yesterday, (2 August), ED officials had raided the premises of Veera Saminathan, a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) party functionary who was reportedly responsible for the collection of cash from 25 TASMAC outlets.

Balaji is currently lodged in Chennai's Puzhal prison as he is under judicial custody till 8 August.

The verdict on his plea challenging the Madras High Court judgement, which allowed the ED to take him into custody for interrogation has been reserved by the Supreme Court.
