Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who urged the Lok Sabha Speaker to revoke the suspension of earlier suspended parliamentarians, was suspended on Monday (18 December) along with 32 other leaders.
Saugata Roy, Dayanidhi Maran, TR Balu, Kalyan Banerjee and A Raja are among 30 opposition leaders who have been suspended for the remaining Winter Session of the Parliament.
However, the matter of suspension of three other Lok Sabha MPs Abdul Khaliq, Vijay Vasanth and K. Jeyakumar has been referred to the Privileges Committee, ANI reported.
Earlier, a total of 14 MPs were suspended from Lok Sabha and one Derek O'Brien from Rajya Sabha. Of these, nine were Congress MPs. Urging to revoke their suspension, Chowdhury wrote to speaker.
“Considering the fact that the Members who have been suspended on account of 'unruly conduct' were pressing for an explanation from the Government on very troubling issues, to me, it appears to be appropriate to hear them on their concerns and points of view". he said.
"Considering the factors that led to the suspension of 13 members in the recent days, I would urge that the matter be re-looked into holistically and appropriate action taken to revoke the suspension and restore order in the House,” he added.
