In a major blow to Sharad Pawar, all seven MLAs of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Nagaland have declared their support for Ajit Pawar.
The NCP MLAs from Nagaland have released a statement confirming their backing for Ajit Pawar. They have also assured that all party workers in the Nagaland NCP office will stand by him, reports NDTV.
Earlier this month, Ajit Pawar, along with eight other NCP MLAs, joined forces with the Maharashtra Shiv Sena and BJP alliance government, led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
This decision caused a division within the NCP, a party founded by Sharad Pawar.
Ajit Pawar's recent tactical move bears resemblance to how Shinde last year broke away from the Shiv Sena during Uddhav Thackeray's tenure as Chief Minister. Eventually, Shinde gained control of the Shiv Sena.
In 2019, the Shiv Sena terminated its alliance with the BJP and instead formed the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra, joining forces with the Congress and NCP.
Last year, the government collapsed when Shinde split from the party and joined hands with the BJP to establish a new government.
Ajit Pawar, asserting his leadership of the "real NCP," has garnered support from prominent party leaders such as Praful Patel, Chhagan Bhujbal, and Dilip Walse Patil.
On the other hand, Sharad Pawar has also claimed his position as the leader of the "real NCP," expelling several senior leaders for engaging in "anti-party activities".

Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
