The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has emerged victorious in Nighasan, which is the place where the Lakhimpur Kheri violence took place back in October 2021.
BJP candidate Shashank Varma defeated the Samajwadi Party’s (SP) contestant R S Kushwaha by a whopping 41,000 votes in the Uttar Pradesh (UP) assembly elections.
The saffron party has been leading in all of the eight constituencies in the Lakhimpur Kheri district.
The opposition parties had made the October violence involving Union Minister’s Ajay Kumar Teni’s son a major attack point against the BJP.
The Minister of State (MoS) for Home was not a part of the BJP’s star campaigners list in the state polls. His son Ashish Mishra was granted bail in this case by the state high court in February.
