In a recent development, BJP Member of Parliament (MP) Nishikant Dubey has accused Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra of engaging in corrupt practices within the Indian Parliament.
Dubey has submitted a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, alleging that Moitra received monetary bribes and gifts from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for raising specific questions during parliamentary sessions.
The missive to Speaker Birla, titled "Re-emergence of nefarious 'Cash for Query' in Parliament: Direct Implication of Smt. Mahua Moitra," categorises Moitra's actions as a severe breach of parliamentary privileges, contempt of the House, and a criminal offense under Section 120-A of the Indian Penal Code.
Dubey claims to possess compelling evidence of the financial transactions between Moitra and Hiranandani, urging an immediate suspension of Moitra from her parliamentary duties.
According to Dubey's letter, a lawyer has provided incontrovertible evidence substantiating the alleged exchange of bribes between the TMC MP and Darshan Hiranandani.
Dubey emphasises that these actions mirror a similar "Cash for Query" incident from 12 December 2005, further implicating Moitra in a criminal conspiracy to protect Hiranandani's business interests through her parliamentary inquiries.
Moitra, in response, took to social media to defend herself, expressing a willingness to face any inquiry once ongoing charges against Dubey are resolved by the Lok Sabha Speaker.
Central to the accusations is Darshan Hiranandani, a notable Indian entrepreneur and the CEO of the Hiranandani Group, a well-established real estate conglomerate renowned for its contributions to the Indian real estate and construction sectors.
Darshan Hiranandani, who completed his education at the Rochester Institute of Technology, New York, is credited with expanding the group's real estate operations internationally and venturing into emerging sectors such as datacentres, cloud computing, energy, and industrial warehousing and logistics.
He has notably founded Tez Platforms, Yotta Infrastructure Solutions, and Greenbase — Industrial & Logistics Park, according to his LinkedIn profile.
