The Delhi High Court on Thursday (24 February) directed social networking platform Twitter to take down five tweets of Audrey Truschke against historian Vikram Sampath.
Trusche, in the said tweets, had alleged plagiarism by Sampath in relation to his works on Veer Savarkar.
The order was passed by the single bench of Justice Amit Bansal on a plea filed by Sampath, who approached the Delhi HC seeking Rs 2 crore in damages from Truschke and two others, reports Bar and Bench.
In his plea, Sampath had also sought permanent injunction on publication of the letter dated 11 February written by Truschke, Ananya Chakravarti and Rohit Chopra to Britain's Royal Historical Society (RHS) President Emma Griffin.
According to the report, a set of fresh applications were moved in the suit arguing that pursuant to the 11 February letter, Truschke and others sent another communication to the RHS alleging further plagiarism in his work. The communication too was posted on Twitter and Facebook.
Further, it was alleged that another e-mail was sent by Truschke to Sampath's PhD supervisor seeking access to his doctoral thesis so that the document can perused for further plagiarism.
The Court, however, refused to pass any orders against Truschke and others to withdraw the letters and communication.
