BJP wins Mayor and Deputy Mayor elections in Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's home district.

Prior to May's Assembly elections in Karnataka, BJP candidates won the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Kalaburagi Municipal Corporation.

Vishal Dargi won the Mayoral election by defeating Congress candidate Prakash Kapanur by one vote.

Shivanand Pisti won the Deputy Mayor position by defeating Vijayalakshmi, his Congress opponent, with an equal margin of votes.

On Tuesday, the High Court of Karnataka in Kalaburagi dismissed a plea filed by Varsha Jane, a Congress member of the Kalaburagi Municipal Corporation, seeking a stay order on the Mayoral and Deputy Mayoral election process.

The court stated that the election process could not be halted once it had been declared. Jane had accused the BJP of attempting to gain power in the civic body through corrupt means.
