  • "We should thank Rahul Gandhi for giving us the opportunity to take the truth and Savarkar to every household," says Gadkari.
  • Maharashtra's Savarkar controversy continues as Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari target Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his remarks on Veer Savarkar.

Gadkari thanked Rahul Gandhi for giving BJP the chance to spread Savarkar's message across households.

“We should thank Rahul Gandhi for giving us the opportunity to take the truth and Savarkar to every household. Rahul Gandhi should continue doing this," Gadkari said while addressing a gathering in Nagpur as part of the “Savarkar Gaurav Yatra".

During a press conference on 25 March, Rahul Gandhi in response to a question on whether he will apologise for his “Modi surname” remark said: “My name is not Savarkar, it is Gandhi and a Gandhi never offers an apology”.

Nitin Gadkari, too, criticised Gandhi and demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi for his remoarks on Savarkar. Gadkari praised Savarkar for promoting Hindutva as a way of life and breaking caste barriers.

Fadnavis criticised Rahul during the "Savarkar Gaurav Yatra" closing event in Nagpur.

The Home Minister criticised Gandhi for repeatedly criticising Savarkar's stance on mercy pleas and suggested that some people born in India lack knowledge of its history and present.

“Someone who has no political future wakes up everyday and abuses Savarkar daily and to answer such people everyone in Maharashtra has come on roads in the form of the Savarkar Gaurav Yatra," said Fadnavis.
