Supreme Court Sets 14 April Hearing For Gyanvapi Mosque Case, Allows Muslim Side To File Application
The Gyanvapi mosque. (Wikimedia Commons)According to the reports, the Supreme Court has said that it will hear the Varanasi’s Gyanvapi mosque case on 14 April and has given permission for the Muslim side to submit an application concerning the use of ablution inside the mosque.
During proceedings in the apex court, Senior Advocate Huzefa Ahmadi emphasised that since it is the month of Ramadan, devotees must be permitted to pray within the premises. The Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, in response, asked to submit an application on this matter, as per a report by Bar & Bench.
Dispute centered on the wuzu area, where ablutions are performed, as the Hindu side had claimed that a Shivling has been found at the centre of the contested area.
The Muslim side has consistently claimed that it was not 'Shivling' but a component of the water fountain apparatus at the 'wazookhana' reservoir, where followers perform ablutions before conducting the namaz prayer.
