Three men were arrested by police in Aurangabad for harassing a hijab-wearing woman who they thought was with a Hindu man, according to an officer.
Begampura police station is registering a case in the city in Maharashtra.
Footage of the incident in Makai Gate area spread through social media.
The video depicts men confronting a hijab-wearing woman and forcefully taking her phone while she begs for it to be returned.
Police found the woman in the video and asked her to file a complaint, but she refused.
"This incident occurred on Monday. The youths suspected that a Muslim woman was roaming with a Hindu man. They followed the woman and harassed her. Police have initiated the process to register a suo motu complaint after the woman refused to submit a complaint," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Deepak Girhe.
The woman had come to visit the famous Bibi Ka Maqbara in Aurangabad, according to another police officer.

The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
