Around 50 criminals in Uttar Pradesh (UP) have already surrendered within a fortnight of the return of Yogi Adityanath as the Chief Minister (CM) of the state.
Culprits have walked into police stations with placards saying, ‘I am surrendering, please don’t open fire’ hanging around their necks.
The 50 criminals have not only surrendered but have also pledged to give up crime. Meanwhile, two criminals have been shot dead whereas 10 of them have been arrested since the results of the assembly polls were declared.
“To improve law and order, prompt and strict action is being taken through micro-planning to instil fear among criminals in every corner of the state,” ADG, law and order, Prashant Kumar was quoted in an article by the Times of India (TOI).
“Zero tolerance to crime is not just about an effective crackdown on mafia, but renewed vigilance and intensified patrolling by UP-112,” Kumar further opened up on the issue.
This trend began with absconding kidnapper and extortionist Gautam Singh surrendering at the Chhapia police station in Gonda district on 15th March. Several criminals with varying backgrounds have been giving themselves up across the state ever since then.
