Two terrorists were eliminated as the security forces foiled a "major infiltration" bid in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch sector on Monday (17 July).

"Major Infiltration Bid Eliminated in a joint operation by Indian Army and Jammu Kashmir police during the night of 17 July 23 in Poonch sector. Two Infiltrators have been eliminated," the Indian Army said in a statement.

An exchange of fire took place between terrorists and Army officials along the Line of Control (LoC) and additional forces were rushed to the area, India Today reported.

"Army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district," a defence spokesperson told news agency PTI.

The infiltration bid was foiled in the joint operation which is still underway, he said.

Arms and ammunition were reportedly also recovered from the possession of the infiltrators.

Earlier last month, four terrorists were killed as the security forces foiled an infiltration bid in J&K's Machhal sector.

The terrorists were trying to infiltrate into J&K from Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK).
