The security forces have eliminated two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district on Tuesday (10 October).

The encounter broke out after security forces launched an anti-terrorist operation in the Alshipora area after receiving information about the presence of terrorists there.

The slain terrorists have been identified as Morifat Maqbool and Jazim Farooq.

"Killed terrorists have been identified as Morifat Maqbool & Jazim Farooq @Abrar of terror outfit LeT. Terrorist Abrar was involved in killing of Kashmiri Pandit late Sanjay Sharma," the J&K Police said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

Earlier, the police had informed that “encounter has started at Alshipora area of Shopian. Police and security forces are on the job.”

Sanjay Sharma was tragically killed in February, just outside his residence in the Achan region of Pulwama.

He was employed as an ATM guard at J&K Bank and had never relocated from his hometown.

Last month, the State Investigation Agency (SIA) carried out search operations at seven locations across three districts in south Kashmir in connection with Sharma's homicide.
