In the statement signed by national general secretary Arun Singh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced the formation of a 4-member team to visit Tamil Nadu to examine the "brutal and irrational behaviour" of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government in Tamil Nadu.
The team comprises of former Karnataka chief minister DV Sadananda Gowda, Baghpat MP and former Mumbai Police Commissioner Dr Satyapal Singh, Andhra Pradesh BJP state president D Purandeswari and Bengaluru Central MP PC Mohan.
The announcement came a day after several BJP members were lathi-charged and detained for protesting against the removal of a flag pole erected by the party outside the house of state president K Annamalai in Chennai's Panaiyur.
Later that day, Amar Prasad Reddy, the co-incharge of the padayatra, En Mann En Makkal was arrested and remanded to judicial custody for 15 days.
The statement stated, "Hon'ble National President Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda has nominated four-member delegation to visit Tamilnadu, where BJP workers are facing brutal & irrational behavior from Tamilnadu Government. The delegation will submit its report to the earliest."
Welcoming the announcement, Annamalai wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "On behalf of @BJP4TamilNadu, we thank our @BJP4India National President Thiru @JPNadda avl for the four-member delegation in response to the brutal & irrational behaviour of the Corrupt DMK Government. The DMK government has only displayed fascist tendencies since it came to power in May 2021.
"1. @BJP4TamilNadu ’s social media functionaries have been constantly harassed and arrested on frivolous charges & exaggerated sections are imposed.
"2. Most cases are filed by Local DMK functionaries & the police are pressurised to make arrests to satisfy the ego of corrupt DMK ministers.
"3. Midnight and early morning arrests, not serving 41A summons, and applying fresh frivolous charges while the bail is due & arresting them on the eve of weekends or before long government holidays are the modus operandi of this draconian DMK government.
"4. The DMK government is known for making targeted arrests of those popular in social and mainstream media but has looked the other way towards genuine complaints filed by BJP TN. We are confident that this delegation will bring to light the excesses of this government & the gross misuse of power by @arivalayam in the last 30 months."
