Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP from Dharmapuri, S Senthilkumar, today (5 December) stated in Parliament that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) could win only in 'Gaumutra (cow urine) states.'

In a video clip shared on X (formerly Twitter), Senthilkumar could be heard saying, "People of this country should think that the power of this BJP is only winning elections and mainly in the heartland states of Hindi and what we generally call as the Gomutra states. You cannot come to south India. You see all the results of what happens in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra, Telangana."

Condemning the remarks, BJP state president K Annamalai wrote, "Chennai is sinking due to the misgovernance of DMK & and so is their level of discourse on the floor of the Parliament. After calling our North Indian friends Pani Puri sellers, toilet constructors, etc., I.N.D.I. Alliance DMK MP, makes Gaumutra Jibes @BJP4TamilNadu highly condemns this insensitive remark.

"He has possibly forgotten that the NDA Alliance is in power in Puducherry and was in power in Karnataka until recently. The arrogance of DMK will be the prime reason for their downfall!"

Senthilkumar is known for making derogatory comments about Hinduism and its practices.

In September 2022, Senthilkumar had created a ruckus during the bhoomi puja of a government building by kicking the bricks prepared for the ceremony by smearing vermilion and turmeric paste. He had then said that the DMK government follows the Dravidian model under which it was wrong to conduct a ceremony following the customs of one religion.

Later, in another video clip, he was heard saying (according to the English subtitles), "In the north, Shiva Parvathy family stops with Ganesha. Only if you come to the south, you know that they also have Muruga. We do not know if family planning happened there."
