Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) spokesperson RS Bharathi has come in come for strong criticism after his remarks stating "Nagas were dog-eaters", while criticising Governor RN Ravi.
Posting a video clip of Bharathi's remarks, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president K Annamalai wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "The recent attack on Raj Bhavan is an outcome of such uncouth speeches against the Hon Governor by DMK leaders, yet DMK doesn't seem to have learnt the lesson.
"Reducing the pride of our North Eastern brothers & sisters to Dog eaters is highly condemnable.
"While Thiru @mkstalin’s Podcast drama continues, this is India in the eyes of I.N.D.I. Alliance & their model of inclusive social justice."
As per the sub titles in the video clip, Bharathi could be heard saying, "What is the Governor sitting here doing? He is here to bother the DMK government. We have seen many Governors in Tamil Nadu. But this guy is deliberately inviting us to create issues. He is not signing any of the Bills which we send him.
"I even spoke in a meeting. Do you know what happened to him in Nagaland? They drove him away from there. Don't mistake me, I am saying this as an example. Nagaland people eat dogs. If even dog eaters had the guts to drive him away, Ravi mustn't forget that Tamil Nadu people who eat food with salt are much more gusty."
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), put out by the Raj Bhavan, Governor Ravi was quoted as saying, “Nagas are brave, honest and dignified people. Thiru R S Bharathi a senior DMK leader publicly insulting them as ‘Dog eaters’ is scurrilous and unacceptable. I urge Mr Bharathi not to hurt a community of which the whole of India is proud.”
