Governor RN Ravi has accorded sanction to prosecute two former All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) ministers, C Vijayabaskar and BV Ramanaa. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered cases against them in connection with the Gutkha scam.
According to a report by The Hindu, the CBI's request for sanctioning prosecution was sent in September 2022 and sanction was granted on 13 November. It stated that the information was obtained from a note submitted by the Union Home Ministry to the Supreme Court.
Regarding the request to prosecute former AIADMK minister KC Veeramani in a case filed by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC), it stated that the file had been received back on 18 November after being returned on 15 November saying that it did not contain the authenticated probe report.
In the case of MR Vijayabhaskar, it mentioned that the file was under consideration.
The files regarding the cases against Veeramani and MR Vijayabhaskar had come under scrutiny in July 2023 because the state government claimed to have sent all the files but the Raj Bhavan said that it had not received an authenticated investigation report in the case of Veeramani and that it had not received any communication regarding Vijayabhaskar.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
