Minister Senthil Balaji was taken back to the Puzhal prison in Chennai after being discharged from the state government-run Omandurar Hospital.
Balaji's bail plea on medical grounds was rejected by the Supreme Court on 28 November. The bench of Justices Bela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma said that there was nothing serious in his medical condition.
It allowed Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, who represented Balaji, to withdraw the application for bail on medical grounds and asked to him to apply for regular bail.
Balaji was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on 14 June in connection with the cash-for-jobs scam during his tenure as Transport minister.
