Chinese automotive battery giant CATL has unveiled a new battery that can deliver a range of 400 kilometers on just a 10-minute charge.
The lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery incorporates modified electrode materials and an electrolyte mix that enables faster charging without compromising safety.
CATL, also known as Contemporary Amperex Technology, has developed the 'ShenXing' battery to be used in more affordable electric vehicle models.
The fast-charging LFP battery is equipped with CATL's in-house technology, including fast ion ring technology, a new superconducting electrolyte formulation, and an ultra thin and safer separator.
The new LFP battery will enable up to 700 km range. CATL claims its new innovation is the world’s first LFP battery to support 4C charging, as well as a “battery for everyone", reports Electrek.
The “C” refers to the charging multiplier of the battery. Hence 4C can charge in a quarter of an hour.
Furthermore, this advanced battery is designed to perform optimally even in cold weather conditions.
The mass production of these batteries is expected to begin by the 2023 end.
The latest battery technology from CATL is expected to be integrated into electric vehicles that will hit the market in early 2024.
